Haiku Lessons from Lot's Wife

ABOUT
Lessons
I learned from
Lot's wife

These Haiku explore the potential of Lot's wife mourning her most precious treasure - her children. None of this is rooted in fact, it was just an exercise for me to gain further insights and deepen my personal commitment to looking forward in the midst of trial.

Janneke

1. Her children (?) she grieved

Unable to bare the pain

She turned to look back

2. A pillar of salt

In consequence of weakness

Mortalities end.

3. Some claim her worldly

Do they know not grief, heart break?

Turmoil and darkness?

4. The elements raged

Her elements raged within

What fear made her turn?

5. An instant poor choice,

And we none have refrained from.

Swift came the promise.

6. The Lord is faithful

His word does He verify.

Lots wife became salt.

7. What is salts promise?

A type, of preservation.

Life is Eternal.

8. What is my lesson?

Lots nameless wife's legacy.

Grief is not an end.

9. Grief is a passage

God always keeps His promise.

Press forward though sad.

10. A pillar of salt.

Choice and promise symbolised.

Rise above sadness.

11. Look forward to Christ

For what else when storms arise

Will help us prevail?

12. So understand now

The pain from loss of a child

To want what is gone

...

13. It is not enough

To be just a good person

God requires more.

14. If Malach God sends

The message must be obeyed

Safety was promised.

15. Perhaps it was hard

Faith in Christ, not so easy

When giving up much.

16. What were her treasures?

City living? Comforts? Gold?

Ridiculous. No!

17. Her children? daughters?

Husbands, disbelieved Lots call?

Daughters suffering?

18. Suffering Daughters?

Those treasures consumed her thoughts?

How could she leave them?

19. Looking. Her mistake.

Not knowing Christ could receive

Her daughters (?) spirits.

20. That Christ God is King

Though not then earth descended

Promise Eternal.

21. Her faith overcome

So God took her home to him

Salt pillar in place

22. Salt pillar body

Her witness left near Zoar

God keeps His promise

23. Salt was precious then

Lots wife was precious to God

Is life just mortal?

24. No! life goes beyond

Physical Tabernacle.

Spirit reunions!

25. Spirit reunions!

Unveiled, truths returning.

Christ's love and mercy.

26. Her legacy left

Precious salt, precious daughter

Yes, still Gods daughter.

27. So learned from Lots wife

Eternal truth realised

Sorrow is fleeting.

28. Joys comes in the morn

Christ who has suffered our pain

Christ who overcame!

29. Life is Eternal

Don't let grief over come you

Look forward though pained.

30. Hindsight is easy

Heart broken journeys, not so.

Treasures left, cause pain.

31. Christ in His mercy

Jehovah, her God took her

But left here fam'ly.

32. Sorrows can o'er come.

Sorrows can be overcome.

Take counsel, God hears!

33. Pray in your sorrow.

Know you are precious to Him.

Work through your losses.

34. In Mortality

Others have need of our help,

Children need teaching.

35. Generations gone.

Generations continue.

Learn truth, then teach them.

36. Whats gone, in truth hurts

But what comes without teaching

May hurt so much more.

37. Acknowledge the pain

But look forward and teach them

Become their Malach.

39. To women is given

The errand to teach, bless and serve

Sorrow can't stop it.

40. Christ can stop sorrow

Know him, love him, live his way.

Christ keeps His promise.

41. Suffering will end

Families are eternal

We are His children.

42. Does He not want us?

Did he not suffer for us?

To bring us to Him?

43. Be then forever

Preserved unto His goodness

His mercy reigneth.

44. Mistakes, Forsake them.

Pains give them to Him. Keep on.

Eternal, not salt.

45. Her Pillar reminds

To press forward through the pain

Life is eternal.
